Chip Ervin - Requirements to Become an Insurance Broker

Chip Ervin has led an interesting life and went down many career paths. Mr. Ervin has been a DJ, as well as a professional poker player, and an insurance broker. Insurance brokers solicit, negotiate, and sell insurance, usually for some kind of percentage commission.

Chip Ervin Insurance brokers are typically used as a way for insurance companies to communicate the finer parts of their service to potential customers. Most insurance brokers are required to obtain a license, though the rules vary from state to state. Typically, in order to obtain a broker’s license, you have to complete some pre-licensing course work, and then successfully pass a standardized exam. Insurance brokers also have to submit an application to the state insurance regulator of the state the broker wishes to operate out of.

The process helps the state determine whether or not the applicant has met all of the legislative requirements. The application usually also entails a background check in order to determine that the individual is trustworthy and competent. Usually, a criminal conviction results in a state denying the application. Some states even require fingerprints from an applicant.

Once an insurance broker does finally become licensed, they usually have to continue taking education courses in order to meet license renewing requirements. Different states have different renewal policies. In California for example, renewals are required every two years. However, once licensed in one state, it is usually far easier to become licensed in another.
