Starting With A Bad Hand

Good poker players tend to start as they mean to go on, which means not playing when they know they have bad hands. The less experienced may just try to get on the table as quickly as possible, losing a chunk of their money early on because they have tried to bluff their way into winning. It is important that you understand when to fold and when to play in order to get off to a good start.

Neglecting Position Strategy

Many players neglect to consider their positions at the table into their strategy, which is not a wise move. You need to understand the advantages, or disadvantages, that your position offers you, allowing you to play accordingly. A general rule is that the later positions are better, so play more hands when you go later, while being more conservative when going first.

Not Focusing On Image

Chip Ervin is able to spot inexperienced players quickly because they don’t focus on their images at the table. Try to develop a ‘poker persona’ that establishes how you want others to see you, particularly in regards to your playing style as this allows you to dictate the game.
